REVIEW: I SO DON'T DO MAKEUP BY BARRIE SUMMIE

I So Don't Do Make-up by Barrie Summie
Ages: 9-13
From the cover:
What's better than a sleepover? A sleepover with makeovers! Sherry and her friends have an awesome time with eye shadow, glitter, and more hair products than a salon. But when the girls wake up the next morning with serious skin issues, Sherry is freaked. Someone must have tampered with her makeup!

It turns out that the mall's cosmetics kiosk has had lots of products returned by upset customers. Sherry is determined to get to the bottom of things. After all, she's a bit of a crime-solving celebrity (well, at least in the spirit world). Ghost academies around the world are impressed by Sherry's and her ghost mom's skills.
And if anyone can solve a mystery involving mascara, it's Sherry Holmes Baldwin.

This is now my FAVORITE book EVER! I really love mystery's, so night after night here was the conversation:
" Ellie! Time for bed!"
" One more chapter mom?"
" Okay, but only one more! It's getting late."

Each chapter leaves you in suspense, you can't stop reading!
This book is about 13 year old Sherry Holmes Baldwin trying to solve a case at a store called "Naked Makeup". Your probably asking "Whats the case?", well I'll tell you. Actually, there are several cases in the book at Naked Make-up here I'll list them:
1. 2 jars full of lip gloss made costumers lips burn like CRAZY!!!
2. A cream called "Nite Sprite Cream" made peoples faces red, blotchy, and brittle.
They have a few suspects but I'm going to leave that to you to find out.

This book is AMAZING. It leaves you in suspense. All the characters are my favorites! I give this book:
5/5 Blabbies

Keep on reading!

Thank you to everyone who entered my very first contest!  And your entries earned money towards buying a well for Ethiopia with H20 Ethiopia!  Personally, I think you all should have won because you are ALL WINNERS!

I have 41 followers...WOOT!  Thank you to those who brought me over the top, and we celebrated with an Treatza Pizza from DAIRY QUEEN!

I just did a "Book Talk" for an assignment in front of my class.  It's a presentation about your book for the class.  I did The Dork Diaries 2, (the book we gave away), and dressed as Nikki Maxwell the main character.  If you can believe it, it's really hard to find an outfit as a grade 8 girl when you are in grade 6.  The class said it was really good, and I had tons of fun.

I'm still reading the Hatchett, we are on chapter 6, and I am also reading Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld for personal reading.  I love the characters in Leviathan and the creatures, especially Deryn Sharp because she has a very strong passion to be a fighter and not just girl.

REVIEW: DORK DIARIES BOOK NUMBER 2

DORK DIARIES
TALES FROM A NOT-SO-POPULAR PARTY GIRL
by Rachel Renee Russell

Reading level: Ages 9-12

Hardcover: 288 pages
Publisher: Aladdin; 1 edition (June 8, 2010)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1416980083

I absolutely LOVE this book! It is about Nikki, a Middle school student, who gets a little too busy for her liking. Mackenzie is Nikki's Enemy. She was chair person until she decided to quit, just to make Nikki cancel the dance so the school will hate her. She has to set up the dance with only six people, her, her two friends, Chole and Zoey, Vilot, Theodore, and Jenny. During the dance, Nikki also has to work at her little sister's ballet party (in a rat suit), be at the dance with her crush (in her Juliette costume), and hang out with her friends, Chole and Zoey (in a trash bag costume) all at the same time! She is very stressed and WAY too busy, read the book how she handles it with a sense of humer.

This book is great, but it says "But I just said it in my head so no one else heard it but me." alot.
 I give this book:
4/5 Blabbies.

REVIEW: GHOST IN THE MACHINE

WARNING: This book and videos may be too scary for children younger than 9 years old.

2nd in the series:

Ghost in the Machine by Patrick Carman
Reading level: Ages 9-12

Hardcover: 192 pages
Publisher: Scholastic Press (October 1, 2009)

I read this book late last year, I found this book very very interesting because I  love things about the supernatural.  It is a chilling story about two kids named Sarah and Ryan who live in Skeleton Creek who discover a ghost.  The book is not just a story it is actually Ryan's journal, the story is from his point of view.

Here is the description from Amazon.com:
Strange things are happening in Skeleton Creek...and Ryan and Sarah are trying to find out why. Ryan writes down everything in his journal, and Sarah records everything on her videocam. The two move deeper into the mystery they've uncovered, determined to discover the secrets buried in Skeleton Creek, in the conclusion to Patrick Carman's thrilling series.

In this groundbreaking format, the story is broken into two parts -- Ryan's text in the book, and Sarah's videos on a special website, with links and passwords given throughout the book.

One of the cool things about this book is that it is interactive.  Which means that when you go on Sarah's website you enter a code that you get when you finish certain sections of the book.  When you enter the password onto the website a video of the last few days  in the story appears.  This is the part that can be VERY SCARY.  In fact, I had a nightmare after reading the first book of the series and watching the videos.  The first book was called Skeleton Creek, but you do not need to read it first.

This is a total page turner!  I could not stop reading it, I finished it in about 3 days!

If you like ghost stories and mysteries you will LOVE this book!

RATING:  5/5 BLABBIES

BONUS for my readers!
(PLEASE SEE WARNING ABOVE BEFORE VISITING THE SITE!!)

Visit http://www.sarahfincher.com/ and put in the password: LEONARDSHELBY and you will see the very start of the book so there are not any spoilers!

REVIEW: DRAGON SLAYERS' ACADEMY #1 AND AWARD TIME!

Dragon Slayers' Academy Book # 1 by Kate McMullan
Paperback: 112 pages

Publisher: Grosset And Dunlap (May 13 2003)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0448431084
For ages 7-9

From the author's website:

A traveling minstrel tells Wiglaf that he was born to be a hero. Dragon slayers are heroes, thinks Wiglaf, so he sets off, with his pig Daisy, for Dragon Slayers Academy, determined to learn to be a dragon slayer. There is just one little problem with this plan. Wiglaf can’t stand the sight of blood.

I read this book in grade 2 and I really enjoyed it!  Some other characters not mentioned in the quote above are Wiglaf's friend Erica Von Royale (a princess who is pretending to be boy so she can fight dragons because only boys are allowed at the Dragon Slayers' Academy);  Angus, Wiglafs' other friend who is the nephew of the head master who is greedy and only wants more and more gold.

I like it because it is funny, it is set in medeival times, and I think dragons are cool.  There are 18 books in the series and I have read all of them.  I think most kids would like this series, especially if you liked Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling.

I give this book 4/5 Blabbies

REVIEW: DIARY OF A WIMPY KID by Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney (9-13)
Hardcover: 224 pages

Publisher: Harry N. Abrams (April 1 2007)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0810993139

I thought I could do Diary of a Wimpy Kid First because I kind of have that theme going on my blog!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is  VERY funny. The main character, Greg, is self centered and some of the situations Greg gets into are weird   random interesting. He has a friend, Rowley, who is a little............ young for his age. Fregley is an odd ball, that is all I can say about him! Then Greg's little brother, Manny, is the favorite in the Heffly Family so Greg is always a little down.

Basically, it talks about Greg's life in middle school (Junior High) as a student and some of the problems he has and how he overcomes them, all with a crazy sense of humour!  This is something every kid can relate to.

I give this book:
5/5  Blabbies!

The movie is a good interpretation of the book, and it was cool to see a book that I loved up on the screen.  It turned out exactly how I imagined it!  Here is the trailer, check it out!
