Dragon Slayers' Academy Book # 1 by Kate McMullan
Paperback: 112 pages
Publisher: Grosset And Dunlap (May 13 2003)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0448431084
For ages 7-9
From the author's website:
A traveling minstrel tells Wiglaf that he was born to be a hero. Dragon slayers are heroes, thinks Wiglaf, so he sets off, with his pig Daisy, for Dragon Slayers Academy, determined to learn to be a dragon slayer. There is just one little problem with this plan. Wiglaf can’t stand the sight of blood.
I read this book in grade 2 and I really enjoyed it! Some other characters not mentioned in the quote above are Wiglaf's friend Erica Von Royale (a princess who is pretending to be boy so she can fight dragons because only boys are allowed at the Dragon Slayers' Academy); Angus, Wiglafs' other friend who is the nephew of the head master who is greedy and only wants more and more gold.
I like it because it is funny, it is set in medeival times, and I think dragons are cool. There are 18 books in the series and I have read all of them. I think most kids would like this series, especially if you liked Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling.
I give this book 4/5 Blabbies
